Mission

The Porter Project’s mission is to create connections through literacy and engagement. The Porter the Hoarder series joins Bigs with Littles, connects schools to families, and organizations to their communities in a way that engages, educates, and excites!

The hard stuff

The Porter Project awesome stuff...

“Kids aren’t excited
to read at home!“

11111.png

The Porter Project creates excitement through the madness of launch, media attention, and the interactive nature of the books for Bigs and Littles alike.

“Parents aren’t sure how to read with their kids!”

22.png

Parents follow the lead of their children who have practiced reading the books at school...the kids are the ‘experts’. Books are sent home with parent homework which includes videos of the author reading aloud for inspiration.

Porter books can be read in
under 10 minutes, but they are
often read again and again!

“New books are expensive!”

“There isn’t enough time at home to read out loud with kids!“

Teachers

Porter is a GAME that is
also a book!

Excitement turns into quality reading
time. Bigs and Littles create read-
aloud habits
of asking questions,
making comments, and connecting
with others!

Porter sets the stage,
we provide the next steps

Now there is a time slot at home
reserved
for reading out loud, so
teachers can fill in with other books
and lessons going forward.

We provide FREE bonus
classroom activities

Optional classroom lessons that tie
into subject and SEL standards
that
students will be excited to engage in
We provide SMARTboard pdfs, lesson
plans, videos and access to an online
community for more ideas.

Administrators

Pre packaged and ready
to roll out quickly

The package makes the project
simple to explain to teachers,
minimises planning and lesson
prep and includes a launch day
training deck.

The Porter Project fits into
your calendar

We provide a timeline and
milestone checklist
that can fit into
your academic year planning at any
point. Foundations come to you with
a plan already laid out.

Incorporates the 5 pillars
of Family Engagement

1. Early literacy
2. Family involvement
3. Access to books
4. Expanded learning
5. Mentoring partnerships

Specialists

Porter helps with the
BIG emotions

Porter models the regulation
of feelings
through a trauma-
informed lens. We work
with child psychologists to
make sure we get it right.

Promotes connection
and correction

Reading together connects Littles
to their peers, teachers and
Bigs at home. The correction of
Porter’s behavior still ends with
judgement-free connection.

Provides opportunities
for success

Gives children at ALL reading
levels the chance to show off
their literacy skills
, outside
of just sounding out words.

The Porter Project bridges the gap between
teaching Science of Reading and positive aspects of Balanced
Literacy to make kids excited and motivated to read more at home.

“The kids in my class love sharing
their reading experiences from
home with their friends at school”

“My students were visibly
engaged
with the joy of
reading this book.”

“Students were excited to share/own
a book with their parents. They loved
that they would be able to keep it!

“This project gets students and their
families working together to improve
literacy skills. Not all families put education
before other aspects of life so any tools we
can use to help them make reading a part
of their daily lives are important.”
